Practical Couponing - The UNextreme way!

First let me say that I am the most UNextreme couponer out here. I am too cute to dumpster dive.  I refuse to pay for hundreds of newspaper deliveries and my BF would put me out if I turned our bedroom into an in-home grocery store!

Simply put, I do this because I like it.  I coupon on the things I need to save money for the things I want.  If I allot $200/month for groceries, and only spend $50 then I have an extra $150 to spend any way I please.

When I started exploring couponing two months ago, I was reading so much about how to coupon and watching so many videos that I quickly felt overwhelmed by the amount of information I was taking in.

I knew that I could succeed, but I would have to take it slowly and learn from my own mistakes. The first time I saved 50% on my grocery bill, I wanted to pop my collar, cripwalk, and hug everyone in the store.  I instead took it as a starting to point to learn how to save 60% the next time, and so on.

I coupon for thing things we want and need in our home and that includes groceries, laundry items, personal care items, etc.  There are simply no limits.

For all couponers there are 3 main things you need to achieve to get the most out of couponing.

  • Matching coupons with store sales.  Wait for the time when the item is at its cheapest before you use the coupon to buy it.
  • Stacking Coupons.  Does your store offer their own coupon that you can stack with a manufacturer's coupon for the same item? If so, STACK!  You can always use one store coupon and one manufacturers coupon together to get the best savings.
  • Stockpiling.  Stock up enough product to last you until the next sale, which is usually within 6-8 weeks.

You also need to know your store's policies. Do they double coupons?  Do they offer Double or Triple savings days? Do they have a rewards savings card?

With this blog, I will post tips that I've learned for practical couponing.  I will never be the chick buying 100 cat treats just because they are free with coupons.
  • A: I don't own a cat
  • B: I don't have the room in my home for 100 of anything
  • C:  It's just stupid, unless you are going to donate it to someone who needs it
Stay tuned for updates and videos from my shopping trips and let me know if there are any areas that you want specific help in, and I'll share what I know.
